Who We Are
New York Disability Advocates (NYDA) is a coalition of six provider associations that represent nearly 300 nonprofit agencies across the state. These agencies deliver supports and services to more than 140,000 New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families.

Our member associations include:

  • The Arc New York
  • Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State (CP State)
  • Developmental Disabilities Alliance of Western New York (DDAWNY)
  • InterAgency Council of Developmental Disabilities Agencies, Inc. (IAC)
  • New York Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation
  • New York Association of Emerging & Multicultural Providers (NYAEMP)

Our Mission
NYDA unites these associations under one voice to advance policies that protect, strengthen, and expand the system of supports for New Yorkers with I/DD. We work to:

  • Ensure that people with disabilities can live fulfilling lives in their communities
  • Support and stabilize the workforce that makes these services possible
  • Advocate for sustainable funding, smart regulations, and a strong partnership with state leaders
  • Educate lawmakers, media, and the public about the essential role nonprofit providers play in New York’s disability services system

Why We Exist
New York’s system of supports for people with I/DD is primarily operated by nonprofit providers. Together, they form the backbone of care, offering residential programs, employment opportunities, day services, family supports, and community inclusion initiatives. NYDA was formed to ensure that these providers – and the people they serve – have a unified, powerful voice in Albany and beyond.

Our Vision
A future where all New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities are fully included in their communities, supported by a stable and respected workforce, and backed by public policy that recognizes the value of their lives and contributions.
